The Fish that will be in season this Summer

The Fish that will be in season this Summer

It may be a couple of months off, but Summer will be here before we know it, and with it, a whole new range of seafood in season and in demand. Though at time of writing we are still in the midst of a nationwide lockdown, we are remaining optimistic for the future, and looking forward to enjoying a tasty seafood dish at our favourite restaurants when this is all over.

To help with preparing some mouth-watering dishes, here is some guidance for which fish will be in season in Summer 2020.

June

In June the following fish will be in available or in season

  • Brill
  • Coley
  • Crab
  • Gurnard
  • Hake
  • Mackerel
  • Megrim
  • Black Bream
  • Monk Fish
  • Plaice
  • Pollack
  • Red mullet
  • Scallops
  • Sea Trout
  • Tuna

Though seasonal variety will be influenced by location, the above fish are more likely to be available to use in your menus this month.

July

In the height of summer you should expect good volumes of the following:

  • Brill
  • Monkfish
  • Crab
  • Cod
  • Plaice
  • Haddock
  • Pollack
  • Hake
  • Red Mullet
  • Herrings
  • Sardines
  • Lemon Sole
  • Scallops
  • Mackerel
  • Sea Trout
  • Megrim
  • Witch
  • Black Bream
  • Salmon
  • Crab
  • Lobster
  • Oysters

In July, there is a great variety of seafood on the market, as well as good seasonal demand for seafood. It’s important to take care with sustainability as many of the most popular seafood such can be unsustainably sourced from some places. Where possible, there are some great alternatives to popular seafood which are just as tasty (trust us!).

To help, we’ve got a selection of alternatives here

August

And finally, when August rolls around, there is plenty available to fill out your menu and delight your restaurant patrons including:
